I faced one of my silly fears today, and it felt good!

For several years now I have been getting a massage at this school located here in Jacksonville. The price is affordable and it allows students the opportunity to perfect their craft.

For as long as I have been going I have pretty much always lucked up and been placed with a female student. Now before you get the wrong idea, I say “lucked up” because I would always have this stupid, as I look at it now, phobia of a man should not be able to make my body feel “this good”. I am sure you are probably busting a gut at this point and thought of every joke in the book. Well, the truth is I was very serious about it even to the point of walking out on an appointment once because they set me up with a male student and I just wasn’t cool with that.

Well here I am today, I have not been for a massage in a long while and I know I am overdue…you guessed it, a male student. I said to myself in that split second that seemed to be much longer that it time for me to break out of this thing that has controlled me for so long.

As you can probably guess, he did an excellent job. It actually never once felt awkward and to be honest I would argue that it may have been one of the best massages I ever received.

Well, there is a much bigger lesson to learn from this. Too many times in life we let meaningless, superficial and shallow roadblocks prevent us from experiencing potentially life changing moments. Now I would not go as far to say that a massage is life changing but it did make me really stop and think about the other phobias that I have that may preventing me from reaching my full potential in life.

In closing I challenge you to look inside yourself, what are the things that hold you back? What can you do to remove those fears and open yourself to all that life has to offer. I know it i snot always easy but take it from me, It is not so bad to have a guy give you a massage after all…Talk to you again soon!

My Master Card Moment

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

So we have all seen those commercial for Master Card….well I had mine this past weekend.

I was doing a wedding in Orange Park and it was a smaller wedding. The ceremony was beautiful and just made it through before the rain started. After dinner all in attendance were up and dancing to just about everything I played. For my DJ friends you will know what I mean when it seems like you can not go wrong with what you are playing…

Fast forward to the end of the night…..

As I am beginning to pack up all my gear after a great night, a young boy approaches me and and asks if he can speak with me for a moment. I said, “Sure”. He proceeds to say, “I just want to tell you that what you just did was awesome!” I asked him what he meant by that. His reply was, “The party you just did was the best ever, I hope I can be like you one day when I grow up.”

With tears in my eyes I thanked him and asked him if he wanted to be a DJ. He said, “I sure do, I live in South Carolina but I hope I can find someone there that will help me.” I asked him how old he was…

8 years old!!!!

I spoke to his parents afterwards and let them know that even though they lived in S.C. if he ever had any questions about being a DJ that I would gladly be there for him and gave them my number to reach me.

WOW, if that doesn’t remind you why we (DJs) do what we do, I don’t know what can!
